That is, "where do we go from here?"Steve Hartland, one of the pastors of Trinity RB in Baltimore, preached at our church this past Lord's Day evening. Here's the link for the entire sermon, if you'd like. The sermon opens up 1 Corinthians 9, on our need to adapt the gospel to various kinds of people, so that we might "win, win, win, win, win, save some, more" (Paul's words).
This is the last 8 minutes, where he makes application to our music.
I'd really like your response to this. If you feel more comfortable doing so, respond anonymously. In turn, I'll post some of my reflections.

thank you for posting this one, dave. i am continually amazed at how quickly we (that's me, too) lapse into self-righteousness with our choices of music, dress, etc.
ReplyDelete"how sad our state by nature is..."
hope to see some of you at the worship conference soon!

So, how our we gonna adapt? How should our churches adapt to "win, win, win, win, win, save some and more?" What do you think Dave? What are the Pastors at Heritage thinking on this? If you agree with this, and many of us do, there have to be practical ramifications right? Can we expect our Reformed Baptist cultures to go only this far and know more? Or, will we put aside our preferences and start reaching more so that we can win and save more?
ReplyDeleteIf we don't start adapting more, we are gonna start losing people or we might not ever get them for that matter.
ReplyDeleteOk, let's don't be hearers of the Word only, but doers. So, what are we gonna do?
ReplyDeleteLet me post my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteeagerly awaiting those thoughts....
ReplyDeleteSteve's a good man. That's good and helpful stuff. Thankful for good exegesis and a challenging word.
