Accommodating Churches, Accommodating Christians

Here's another blog post you should read. The blog: The India I Know. The blogger: Jonathan Christman. He does quite a bit of his own reflecting, plus posting a link to a sermon by D. A. Carson and a blog post from Tom Ascol.

Really worth some earnest attentio

  1. great blog. thanks for turning us onto that. Good words on adaptation. May we do it more to win souls. I admit--I was slow to come along but have been thouroughly convinced that if we are going to reach our lost generation, we have to get out of our traditions for traditions sake mentality and be relevant to reach our culture. Paul would have done that.

  2. I know its hard to implement changes in churches that have long held to traditional roots. So when will these things that Brother Dave talks about come to pass? Should we expect it in our own lifetimes. I know Rich B. makes the valid point that there has been some changing but when others can get what they want now down the road at other churches, why should they wait around for HBC to change? I say this anonymously now but the day may soon come I have to say it to my Pastors--that I like others will leave where I feel I can worship more freely the way I want to. There are just too many things that are taboo at HBC like clapping, shouting, other expressions of joy in our God --dare I mention dancing-- that another church might not oppose. I thought we were moving towards more freedom in expression but now it seems that has been stifled. Am I wrong about this brother Dave?

  3. Hi, Anon.
I think you should definitely just go speak with (at least one of) the pastors. They need to hear from you & you need to hear from them on these things that are troubling you. Please feel the freedom to speak with them. That's why they're there.

  4. If Driscoll is a "man in transition" according to on of this blogger's posts, than I guess your church is a church in transition. Sounds like you all are having the traditional vs. contemporary battle. I hope you get that remedied. We did we lost a few people at the beginning but now we have grown more than double as people just feel more comfortable to invite their lost friends who feel more comfortable in coming.

    Keep up the good work.

  5. What is going on over there at HBC? Other RBC churches are watching. I for one applaud the changes though several seem a bit skeptical and reluctant to adapt.
